Nilgiris bans 12 more types of plastic items, rule takes effect from January 15
Ooty: Ban on 12 more types of plastic products, including water bottles below one litre capacity and water packets, will come into effect in Nilgiris from January 15, 2018, with Ms. J.Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris having taken the next major step for plastics control in the hills.
Ms.Divya said that the in order to completely control the plastics menace in the hills, the district administration has decided to ban the use of the following items from January 15 next year.
They are:1) Plastic and foil lined paper plates, 2) Styrofoam/ Thermocol plates and cups/ Loose Thermocol/cutouts, 3) Polypropylene(PP) (non-woven) carry bags, Packing bags, chefs hats, plastic caps and bed sheets, 4) Plastic gloves, 5) Water packets, 6) Silver foil covers, 7) Plastic buntings, 8) Plastic and foil gift wrap, 9) Laminated brown paper, 10) Laminated bakery boxes, 11) Cling wrap and 12) Water bottles below one litre volume. Ms.Divya urged the cooperation of the public, traders to enforce the ban.
