Chennai: Assaulted dog recovering but afraid of humans
Chennai: A two-year-old dog that lost her eye after being abused by students in Puzhuthavakkam on Thursday is now recuperating but, sadly, is afraid of humans approaching her.
Sowmya Sankaran, a social entrepreneur and city-based activist in Puzhuthavakkam, found the stray dog abused and beaten up, and with the eyeball of her left eye sticking out.
“Upon inquiring, area residents told me that the perpetrators could be college students from the nearby slum as they usually run over and attack animals for fun. There were 19 similar stories I came across in two days,” an appalled Sowmya told DC.
On Friday, the dog had severe bleeding from her damaged eye for about eight hours continuously and underwent two surgeries – including one on Saturday.
The dog, under observation is recuperating, but still in shock. “The shock from the incident has affected her and is scared of humans,” she said.
