TSRTC to promote underground coal mines’ tourism

Adilabad: Tourism in Telangana will now go literally deep underground through a “Singareni Darshan” adventure tourism package.

As part of the package, tourists will be taken to the underground and opencast coal mines, apart from power plants belonging to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

According to reliable sources, RTC will organise tours of seven LEP underground and OCP three opencast mines in Godvarikhani of Peddapalli district, apart from Jaipur Power Plant located close to Godavarikhani town. It is learnt that the transport corporation has entered into an agreement with SCCL for 'Singareni Darshan'.

Adventure tourism enthusiasts will be taken to the underground coal mines and opencast mines and shown live how coal is extracted by workers from challenging terrains. The package will cost ₹1,600 per person, inclusive of vegetarian lunch. People can get a chance to see how workers extract coal, even in dangerous conditions.

Generally, trekking, watching waterfalls, forests, hills, tigers and birds, and visiting lakes, unique temples and ancient structures are on people’s and organisers’ itinerary. It is perhaps for the first time in the country that a road transport corporation has thought of underground tourism.

Coal mines adventure tourism buses will start from the Jubilee Bus Station in Hyderabad.

TSRTC is already running special buses from Hyderabad to various popular tourist spots like Kuntala and Pochera waterfalls in Adilabad and certain destinations in Warangal and Khammam districts.
