TPCC seeks Rs 500 crore budget allocation for Gulf migrant workers
Hyderabad: NRI cell Gulf convener of TPCC Singireddy Naresh Reddy demanded an allocation of Rs 500 crore for the welfare of Gulf workers in the ensuing state Budget.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Reddy alleged that the state government had not fulfilled the promises made in their 2014 election manifesto for the welfare of Gulf workers.
Demanding `five lakh ex-gratia to families of workers from the state who had died in Gulf, he said, "In the last eight and a half years, 1700 Telangana migrant workers have died in Gulf countries due to various reasons."
Sangireddy sought special schemes for rehabilitation and reintegration of workers who have returned from Gulf and to establish a welfare board for them as part of a comprehensive NRI policy.
He said that presently 15 lakh Telangana migrant workers living in Gulf countries were sending Rs 1,500 crore overall in foreign exchange every month.
