Woman attempts suicide at Kakinada collectorate

KAKINADA: Kakinada three-town police on Monday foiled a suicide attempt by a woman named M. Durga Devi at the collectorate complex here on Monday. The woman, identified as Durga Devi from Rajamahendravaram, who came to register her grievance about land grabbing at the Spandana programme, climbed onto the terrace of the building and threatened to jump from there.

The alert Sub-Inspector Syambabu managed to bring her down by pacifying the woman. Then, her grievance was brought to the notice of district collector Kritika Shukla who referred the matter to the East Godavari collector for redressal.

Durga Devi complained to the officials that the brothers of her husband along with some land brokers and lawyers had been threatening them to grab her land of 12.5 cents given by her mother at the time of her marriage in Srikakulam district and a piece of land inherited by her husband through the will by his mother.

She alleged that the accused had in past even tried to kill her husband on several occasions, due to which they shifted their residence from Rajamahendravaram to Kakinada.

By using political influence, the accused and the brokers were detaining them from going to court regarding the same, she alleged, adding that there had been no response from the officials despite several representations since 2014.

She urged the authorities to do justice and allow them to enter into their own house and properties.
