HYDERABAD: A GHMC garbage minivan on Monday morning mowed down a 16-month-old boy outside his residence in RTC Colony.
The police identified the victim as Mohammed Razak Quadri and said that the incident took place around 11.20 am, when the driver was reversing his vehicle.
A police official involved in the probe said: “Immediately after the incident, the driver remained seated while the co-driver grabbed the victim's body, placed it before the child’s grandmother, who was sitting on a chair inside the gate, and they all fled the scene.”
Zeeshan Ahmed Quadri, the victim’s father, said he was away when the incident took place and his wife was on bed rest due to post-delivery complications, after giving birth to a girl 10 days back. Razak was the couple’s eldest child.
A relative of the family said he was alerted by the cries of the victim’s mother and immediately called the police.
“We seized the garbage truck. The driver has been identified as Surya and we have taken him into custody,” said Malkajgiri inspector B. Ravi Kumar.
The police registered a case of death due to negligence and shifted the victim’s body to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
