Hyderabad/Udaipur: Udaipur boy Kalpit has created history in JEE main by obtaining 100 percentile. Son of Pushkar Lal Veerwal, who is a nursing staff in a government hospital in Udaipur and Pushpa Veerwal, a school teacher, Kalpit got 360 out of 360 to clinch the first rank.
JEE toppers for research
Mohan Abhyas, who got sixth all-India rank and stood second in the south in JEE (Main) 2017, does not wish to ended up an IT company or get a plum posting in a Fortune 500 company. He dreams of becoming a scientist in physics and contributing to the society.
Mohan is one of several toppers in JEE (Main) this year, who aspire to make a career in research. “My aim is to get into research in physics and become a scientist,” he said. He got 345 out of 360 marks.
He wants to excel in JEE Advanced and join B.E (engineering physics) in IIT Chennai. Simultaneously he wants to do a conventional B.Sc with physics as one of the subjects through Distance Education.
Mohan’s parents, who shifted to Hyderabad 13 years ago, runs a shop, which is famous for tasty samosas, in KHPB Colony.
B.Venkata Pavan, who lives in Vidyanagar in the city got All India 11th rank with 337 marks. His father is a farmer in Rajahmundry and mother an accountant with Vijetha Publications in the city. He wants to secure a top rank in advanced JEE and join CSE in IIT-Bombay and do research in robotics and gaming.
Diddi Sai Kiran, who secured all-India 24th rank, wants to do research in Quantum Field Theory, which relates the study of subatomic particles. His father works in TSRTC, while mother is a housewife.
Ravuri Praful, who secured all-India 71st rank with 321 marks, is interested in astronomy. and wants to get into IISc His mother is an accountant in Vidyut Soudha in Hyderabad.
JEE Main ranks will form the basis for getting into UG engineering/architecture courses at the NITs, IIITs and government-funded technical institutes.
This is the first CBSE has done away with the practice of giving weightage to Intermediate marks for JEE (Main) and the ranks were based only on entrance test scores.
The entrance exam’s offline version was held on April 2 and online version on April 8 and 9. Nearly 11.8 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main exam. Out of this, 2.2 lakh candidates will be eligible to write the Advanced exam to be conducted by IIT-Madras on May 21.
