Anantapur distributing seeds for alternative crops
ANANTAPUR: Agricultural department in Anantapur has announced that it will distribute seeds to farmers for raising alternative crops.
The announcement has come in wake of the groundnut crop sown during the Kharif season withering at the peak stage due to lack of rains.
Anantapur agriculture department joint director U. Umamaheswaramma said because of deficient rains, groundnut sowing is only 53 per cent. Thus, for raising alternative crops, they are selling seeds suitable for dryland agriculture at 80 per cent subsidised prices.
She pointed out that mung bean, horse gram, red cow pea and foxtail millet seeds are being supplied through Rythu Bharosa Kendras for farmers who have failed in sowing groundnut.
The joint director said 1,218 quintals of mung bean, 11,684 quintals of horse gram, 836 quintals of red cow pea and 516 quintals of foxtail seeds are available at the RBK centres in Anantapur district.
