Cops book HCA for ‘changing’ match timings

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City police registered another case against Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) for changing the match timings. Tickets issued by HCA said the match would start at 7.30 pm while the match started by 7 pm. Police have already registered three cases against HCA under various charges in connection with the ticket fiasco and stampede at Gymkhana grounds on Thursday. On Monday, one of the fans who purchased tickets for Sunday’s T20 cricket match between India and Australia, lodged a complaint with Begumpet police station. He alleged that the ticket he purchased said that the match would begin at 7.30pm. When he went to the stadium, he found to his dismay that the match had already begun. Accusing HCA of negligence in communicating the timings properly, he lodged a complaint, following which a case has been registered.

Meanwhile, police are in the process of gathering evidence in connection with the stampede during the sale of tickets. It is evident that HCA had ignored all precautionary measures and safety protocols. “We are verifying various aspects for clues on what led to the fiasco and the stampede that left seven people injured. Accordingly, action will be initiated against those responsible,” a senior city police official told Deccan Chronicle. HCA is facing charges of black-marketing of tickets and not taking preventive security measures.
