AP CID holds seminar on SC / ST empowerment
Visakhapatnam: Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh organised a seminar on empowerment of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes (SC/ST) communities and their sensitisation against atrocities at the Girimitra meeting hall of Parvathipuram Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) on Wednesday.
Addressing the seminar, State ST Commission chairman D.V.G. Sankar Rao underlined the fundamental principle of equality in the Constitution. He pointed out that the constitution grants equality, freedom of speech and liberty to all citizens. However, he questioned the extent to which these rights are enjoyed by individuals.
"One can benefit from these rights only when there is a good understanding of the relevant acts," he remarked. He pointed out that often, it is the vulnerable in society who become victims.
The commission chairman acknowledged the government's efforts in implementing various acts for protection of the common people. He encouraged students to make the best use of government facilities and schemes in improving their position in the society.
As part of the seminar, the CID organised a general awareness quiz. Prizes were distributed to winners.
