Decentralised forests can enhance green cover: Official

Vijayawada: Special chief secretary Neerab Kumar Prasad on Thursday observed that decentralisation of AP forest department in accordance with newly restructured districts will help protect forest wealth and enhance green cover.

Taking part in the first forestry conference of AP, the special CS appreciated forest authorities led by principal chief conservator of forests (CCF) Y. Madhusudhana Reddy for taking up decentralisation of the department in a transparent manner. He said filling up all posts in the department will help it serve people of the state in a better manner.

Neerab Kumar said if environment is protected properly, it will contain changes in the climate and facilitate good rainfall. He called for raising of more plants, so that they help improve percentage of oxygen availability in the atmosphere.

Principal CCF Madhusudhana Reddy appreciated officials of Chief Minister’s Office for enabling restructuring of forest department on par with newly restructured districts. He praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for banning plastic flexi banners. He pointed out that their department has also imposed a ban on use of plastic material in forest areas.

Madhusudhana Reddy called upon participants of the two-day conference to come up with newer ideas to make the department more efficient. He asked forest personnel to revive forests that are getting degraded or becoming extinct.
