Telangana HC Confirms Solely Hindu Leadership in Secunderabad Temple Trust Boards

The government said that there were 243 listed temples in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: The state government has informed the High Court that no member or chairperson of the trust boards of temples in Secunderabad practised any faith other than the Hindu religion.

The government said that there were 243 listed temples in Secunderabad, of which 83 were registered, 160 non-registered and 199 were under the administrative control of the endowments department. None of these temple boards was headed by a person who was not a Hindu.

The government gave an undertaking that there was no instance where the resources and funds of these temples were diverted for any work taken up by the government. There was no instance where the funds were not used solely for the propagation, promotion and preservation of Hindu dharma.

The government filed the information in the form of an affidavit following a direction of the High Court that had sought the information.

In 2022, the High Court had registered the PIL, based on a communication received by it, in which the grievance was that the Hindu temples, which were under the control, administration and management of the government, were headed by converts to Christianity and that the temple trust boards were filled with persons of no merit, including some converts to Christianity.

After perusing the government’s affidavit, the court was not inclined to go further in the PIL and disposed it of.
