Vizag city police chief addresses harassment of elderly in Spandana

Visakhapatnam: Elderly people of several families lodged a complaint against their family members for neglecting their health and other issues at the Spandana programme of city police commissioner A. Ravi Shankar.

A 79-year-old man from R.R. Venkatapuram filed a complaint against his son-in-law, alleging mistreatment and threats. The complainant stated that his son-in-law withheld essential documents, including house papers, land records, R.D. books, and ₹3 lakh in cash. The accused has reportedly denied him food, adding to the distress.

A 70-year-old resident of Arilova reported an incident where his son allegedly broke into his house, inflicted injuries with a knife, and made off with crucial documents, including land and house papers, phone, vehicle, and ₹40,000 intended for his unmarried daughter's insurance.

Another complaint was filed by a 78-year-old man from Ramajogi Peta, who claimed that since his wife's demise, his sons and daughters-in-law have harassed him and even attempted to take his life on five occasions. The police have officially registered his complaint.

A 65-year-old man from Kancharapalem lodged a complaint saying his family members withholding ₹20,000 that rightfully belong to him.

City police commissioner urged those facing similar challenges to utilize the "Dial Your CP" programme, a specially arranged initiative for the elderly available for 30 minutes from 12:00 to 12:30. The programme aims at providing timely assistance and support to senior citizens facing various issues.
