Mulapeta seaport will change North Andhra: Y.V. Subba Reddy
Visakhapatnam: YSRC party’s regional coordinator Y.V. Subba Reddy forecast that Mulapeta seaport being developed at a cost of ₹4,361 crore will change the face of north Andhra, particularly Srikakulam district.
Subba Reddy, along with ministers Seediri Appala Raju and Gudivada Amarnath, apart from Narasannapeta MLA Dharmana Krishnadas, visited the port on Thursday to assess the ongoing works.
Talking to reporters after visiting the port, Subba Reddy said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is committed to the development of north Andhra. He pointed out that ₹16,000 crore have been spent on Ramayapatnam,
Machilipatnam and Mulapeta ports so far.
“Once these three ports are completed, around 75,000 people will get employment,” he stated.
The regional coordinator said similarly, Bhogapuram international airport, once completed, will get business from neighbouring Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Industries minister Gudivada Amarnath said an industrial hub will be developed over 5,000 acres near the Mulapeta port.
“In future Srikakulam will compete with Visakhapatnam in terms of business development,” Amarnath stated.
Fisheries minister Dr Seediri Appala Raju said the previous government did not even lay a brick for the port. He said every maritime town in the state will have a port, which will lead to massive development of the state.
“Mulapeta is a four-decade-old dream, which is being realised under Jagan Mohan Reddy. Works are going on at a fast pace. CM Jagan himself will inaugurate this port,” Appala Raju declared.
Former deputy chief minister and Narasannapeta MLA Dharmana Krishnadas thanked farmers who came forward to give their lands for development of the Mulapeta port. He said if Visakhapatnam is made a capital, more
developmental activities will take place in north Andhra.
Srikakulam collector Srikesh Lathkar said the district has 193-km-long coastline. Once Mulapeta port, fishing harbour in Budagatlapalem and fish landing centre at Manchineellapeta are completed, lives of local fishermen
families will improve.
MLCs Duvvada Srinivas, Varudu Kalyani and Narthu Rama Rao were among those present.
