Visible policing in AP decreases crime rate in 2023
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy declared that the crime rate in AP has decreased in 2023 compared to last year.
Addressing his year-end press conference here on Thursday, he pointed out that as against 1,75,612 cases registered in 2022, 2023 recorded 1,61,334 cases, showing a dip of 8.13 per cent.
The DGP attributed the dip to effective and visible policing. He pointed out that 2.05 lakh cases had been recorded in 2021.
Giving details, he maintained that effective implementation of Disha programmes, geo-mapping of crime-prone areas and monitoring by women policemare among the reasons for reduced violent crimes against women. However, family violence has increased to some extent.
As many as 677 rape cases had been registered in 2021, 714 in 2022 and 510 in 2023. Similarly, dowry murders, suicide abetments, kidnappings, and dowry deaths have decreased. 18,831 cases related to harassment of women had been registered in 2021, 21,602 cases in 2022, and 18,475 cases in 2023.
Rajendranath Reddy said crimes against SCs and STs have come down because of village visits, identification and surveillance of crime-prone areas, government initiatives, district review meetings, and strict action against
criminals. In 2021, 2,366 SC / ST crime cases had been registered, compared to 2,571 in 2022 and 2,180 in 2023.
Cybercrimes have seen a dip with 2,879 cases registered in 2022 and 2,144 in 2023. Andhra Pradesh Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (A4C), awareness programs and the formation of cyber and social media cells have led to the
reduction in cybercrimes.
The DGP said bodily offences have decreased. In 2021, there had been 911 murders, compared to 895 in 2022 and 802 in 2023. Similarly, attempt to murder cases had been 1,527 in 2021, 1,596 in 2021 and 1,294 in 2023. On the

had been registered in 2021, 49 in 2022 and 35 in 2023.
Rajendranath Reddy said by reorganising beats, continuous monitoring, use of technology, surveillance of criminals released from prison, coordination with neighbouring states, and matching suspects’ fingerprints will be
implemented more effectively to reduce the number of cases in future.
Coming to road accidents, 19,809 accidents occurred in 2021, 18,898 in 2022 and 17,417 accidents in 2023. Identification and rectification of black spots, identifying timings of accidents and increasing vigilance and enforcement during those times, identifying roads where accidents are taking place and taking appropriate measures, and continuous monitoring by SPs have resulted in a significant reduction in accidents. The number of deaths in road accidents has also reduced significantly, the DGP added.
