Modi govt's failures need to be exposed effectively: Kavita Krishnan
CPI(ML) politburo member Kavita Krishnan has said that instead of stitching a rainbow coalition of non BJP parties, the need of the hour is to build effective peoples movement to expose Narendra Modi Government's anti poor policies and failure to implement the promises made to the people.
Do you think Left should take the initiative to bring all secular parties together?
A: The idea of bringing all parties including Left, Congress and non BJP outfits together is a bigger folly or fallacy. The UP results have shown such an alliance only ends up in strengthening the BJP. Bihar is not a good example. It was not just a coalition but had a wider social appeal. Effective movements are needed on a variety of issues. Here I do criticise the Left on its stand on demonetisation. My party made some efforts. But the stand of bigger Left parties was extremely disappointing.
The Left cannot imagine that Fascism will come only in the garb of Hindurashtra. It can even come under the garb of demonetisation. Narendra Modi succeeded in projecting demonetisation as a pro poor initiative and we could not challenge him effectively. After the initial response , the struggle against demonetisation was limited to statements and write-ups in magazines.
Post UP election has there been any change in the political scene ?
A: I think not only by results but by the fact that the BJP appointed a hardliner as chief minister, there are indications that they are trying to interpret the result as mandate for Hindurasthra. Certainly they are taking things in that direction. But I don't believe that the mandate is for Hindurashtra.
Your take on anti Romeo squads and ban on slaughter houses in UP?
A: They are trying to shut meat shops as part of calculated campaign directed against Muslim community. The UP government is trying to project anti Romeo squads as law and order issue. They are trying to encash in on a genuine concern about women safety.
On encounter killings of Maoists in Kerala ?
A: It was a shameful position of the LDF Government. You cannot have a fragmented approach towards democracy and civil liberty. “I will oppose encounter killings in Chattisgarh but do the same in Kerala.” This is an absolutely shameful position. In Kerala the Maoists hardly have any presence. Through encounter killings the LDF Government did what the ruling classes do. I think this is exactly what the CPM government did in West Bengal and they have paid a heavy price.
The hate campaign against you on social networking sites has reached dangerous proportions.
A: I manage by basically naming and shaming. While exposing somebody I am reminding myself that it is political, not personal.
