50 lakes in Hyderabad to have walking tracks, gyms, amphitheatres

HYDERABAD: Over 50 lakes in the city will be rejuvenated with several amenities such as walking tracks, landscaping, and open gyms, among others under the 'Lakes Development Programme', said MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao.

Of the 50 lakes, 25 are within the GHMC while the other 25 are within the HMDA. Rao handed over a memorandum of understanding certificates to real estate companies who adopted the lakes for development. The lakes under development will have walking tracks, landscaping, open gyms, benches, toilets, play areas for children, gazebos, and amphitheatres.

Rao urged developers and construction companies to "look at the lake development projects as an investment for the city because our families are living here, our children will grow up here, and future generations will continue to live here”.

On the occasion of the launch of the ‘Lakes Development Programme’ in Khajaguda on Tuesday, the minister stated that Hyderabad has a tremendous potential to grow, unlike any other metropolis in the country.

“The city's youth are proud of the rapid transformation of Hyderabad, which is a hub for research in the life sciences, IT, simulation, and pharma. The government's initiatives have aided the city's growth and development,” he remarked.

Further, he stated that the HMDA is the largest metro development authority in the country with 7,000 plus kilometres and will continue to remain so for many years to come.

“Hyderabad will have at least 250 km of the metro line in and around the city, and all RTC buses will be electric in the future,” he stated. On the occasion, the minister also announced the setting up of a new world-class film city in Rachakonda, as well as a new sports city and an academic city.
