Two Class 9 girls die by suicide after arguing with parents

HYDERABAD: Two teenage girls died by suicide on Tuesday, in unrelated incidents, the police said.

In the first incident, 14-year-old Gaddam Sirija, a Class 9 student, died by suicide at her residence in Vinayak Nagar Colony of Chatrinaka.

She was allegedly scolded by her parents on Tuesday night for failing to attend tuition classes for the past two weeks, following which she allegedly went to her bedroom and latched the door from the inside.

As she did not come out for dinner and failed to respond, they broke the door and found her body.

In the second incident, 13-year-old D. Vaishnavi, also a Class 9 student, died by suicide at her Gudi Malkapur residence.

According to the police, the girl took the step over a financial argument with her parents.

She initially asked her father D. Naga Seshaiah for Rs 1,000 to treat her friends, but her mother Anita told her that their finances were not in order and asked her to wait till the first week of April.

Vaishnavi agreed and sought Rs 50, but was given only Rs 25 by her father, following which she went to a shop and had panipuri around 5 pm on Tuesday. However, upon returning home, she was scolded by her parents for lying that she was going out with her friends.

The girl then told her parents that she was going to her room to change and did not turn up, following which the parents broke open the door around 11 pm to find the girl dead.

The police filed cases in both incidents and shifted the bodies to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
