Two colonies in Shaikpet get dirty water
HYDERABAD: Residents of Gulshan Colony and Laxmannagar in Shaikpet are fuming at Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWSSB) as it has been supplying drinking water that is contaminated sewage.
This has been happening since April 10 and the foul smell was first noticed during Ramzan. On enquiry, the neighbours also complained of the same. Around 30 houses in Gulshan colony are bearing the brunt as are 20 houses in Laxmannagar.
M.A. Aziz from Gulshan Colony, who lodged a complaint on April 10, said that there has been no respite. “Imagine our shock when two days after our complaint, we received a message that the complaint had been attended to and solved when no one turned up to resolve the issue. This has been taken to the notice of the higher authorities but to no avail.”
Shamsuddin, another resident, added, “We filed a complaint on April 16 and two days later I received an SMS stating that the issue has been resolved. We are still facing the same issue. When the water supply starts we leave water into the drain for a few minutes.”
At Laxmannagar, the residents are forced to buy drinking water. According to Yahya Khan, a resident of the colony, “Two lanes in the colony are getting contaminated water. Several complaints have yielded no response.”
Mohammed Abdul wondered “Will officials swing into action after tragedy strikes by consuming the contaminated water?”
