KAKINADA: Union minister of state (Independent Charge) of the ministry of law and justice and parliamentary affairs and culture Arjun Ram Megwal said that advanced technology has been introduced in judiciary departments like High Courts and Supreme Court and in the digitisation initiatives under E-courts scheme, connectivity has been provided to 99.4 per of total court complexes across India through Wide Area Network (WAN) project.
The litigants can access case status information of over 23.34 crores cases and more than 22.21 crore orders and judgments as on July 3, on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), he said and added that India has emerged as a global leader in conducting court hearing through Video Conferencing (VC) with the District and Subordinate courts and High Courts having heard around 2.77 crore cases till Jun 30, using video conference system.
Answering a question regarding infrastructure facilities in the higher judiciary, posed by the Rajamahendravaram MP M. Bharat, the minister said that the Supreme Court held 4,82,941 hearings through video conferencing till May 5 and VC facilities have been enabled between 3,240 court complexes and corresponding 1,272 jails.
He said that the Central Sector Scheme on Access to Justice titled ''Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice in India’’ has been launched in 2021 for a period of five years with a total budget of Rs.250 crore and the scheme aims to provide citizen-centric delivery of legal services with use of technology.
