KARIMNAGAR: Following Friday's torrential downpours in Karimnagar city, the side walls of the recently constructed four-lane road leading to the cable-stayed bridge started to crumble.
The cable-stayed bridge, which spans the Manair River and was built by TATA and the Turkish company Glumark with an investment of Rs 224 crore from the state government, was inaugurated in June by backward class welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar and IT minister K.T. Rama Rao.
The 680-meter-long cable-stayed bridge suspends the road with massive main cables that run from one end to the other of the structure. The wires were supported by tall towers. To showcase Telangana culture and history on major occasions, the officials also installed a dynamic lighting system, two large screens, and LED lights on the cable bridge at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Within a month after the bridge's opening, the approach road leading to it began to show signs of cracking, raising questions about the bridge's safety.
