NDRF, Police, IAF rescue 80 people in Mulugu Dist
WARANGAL: Rescue teams, including the NDRF and police personnel, apart from soldiers of the Indian Air Force (IAF) continued their rescue operations in Mulugu district with water boats and two helicopters on Friday, rescuing people of Kondai village stranded in flood waters to safe zones.
With Jamppanna Vagu overflowing with heavy rains over the past few days, Kondai village of Eturnagaram mandal has been completely inundated. As it rained heavily on Thursday too, rescue teams faced considerable problems in reaching Kondai village and carrying out search operations.
Yet, using water boats and helicopters, 80 of the total 162 members stranded have been rescued by Friday evening.
Police officials said while eight members of Kondai village got washed away in water overflowing from Jamppanna Vagu, they recovered the bodies of five persons of a family. They have been identified as Rasheed Khan, Majid Khan and his wife, Sharif and Ajju Mohammad. Search operations are going on to find the other people.
In Tadvai mandal, locals noticed an unidentified dead body stuck in electricity wires after flood levels decreased. They have informed the police about the same.
Officials are dropping food and water packets to stranded villagers from helicopters operating from Mamnoor airport.
The rescue and relief operations are being coordinated by panchayat raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and district collector Praveenya.
