Telangana HC dismisses BRS MLA's petition

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday disposed of a plea filed by BRS MLA Kishore Kumar Gadari, of Thungathurthi Assembly constituency, seeking the dismissal of an election petition filed by Addanki Dayakar of the Congress.

Kumar and Dayakar faced off in the 2018 polls, with the former winning by a margin of 1,847 votes. However, Dayakar moved the court alleging discrepancies in figures displayed by the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs).

Dayakar sought the court to set aside Kumar’s election and declare him the MLA.

While the petition is pending, Kumar filed an interim application seeking its dismissal, claiming the contentions raised by Dayakar were not valid grounds for an election petition.

Justice M. Laxman dismissed the application and set September 4 as the next date for hearing the election petition.
