TS to answer on Rs 1-land to society

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Telangana High Court on Monday sought the response of the state government to a PIL challenging the allotment of five acres in Hyderabad to the Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy Educational Society at Rs1 per acre.

The bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar directed the Chief Secretary, special chief secretary of the revenue department, chief commissioner of land administration, Rangareddy collector, and the allottee society to file their counter-affidavits within four weeks.

The issue pertains to GO 197 issued by the government on September 5, 2018, allotting five acres at Budvel village in Rajendranagar mandal of Rangareddy district. The land allotted had a market value of Rs300 crore.

Social worker K. Koteswara Rao and others, petitioners in the case, sought suspension of the GO on the ground that the government could not dole out valuable land parcels as per its whims and fancies.

Chikkudu Prabhakar, advocate for the petitioner, informed the court that there has been no construction on the five acres allotted to the educational society.

The court directed the respondents to submit their contentions within four weeks.
