Hyderabad: Hyderabad topped the trending list of Twitter on Tuesday with the hashtags, #Hyderabadmetro and #GlobalEntrepreanurshipSummit.
With two big events, Twitterati had an early rise as Ivanka Trump landed at Hyderabad airport at 3 am. Photos and videos of Ivanka walking out of the VIP terminal were shared widely across social media. Many took the opportunity to welcome the US President’s daughter to the state and tweeted the photos with a ‘Welcome to Hyderabad’ message.
The widespread speculation about where Ms Trump would stay during her short visit to the city ended when she checked into the Trident Hotel at Madhapur at 4 am, which was also the subject of tweets.
Meanwhile, the most celebrated user of Twitter, minister K.T. Rama Rao, took a dig at himself stating that with the Metro inauguration and Global Entrepreneurship Summit on the same day, he was in dire need of a personal stylist! Many of his staunch followers replied that his ‘personal style’ was enough to make a statement.
The US Ambassador to India welcomed Ms Trump with the tweet, ‘Great to have you and the US contingent here in Hyd-erabad,’ which was retweeted by Ivanka herself.
The US embassy’s Twitter handle was also active, tweeting selected portions of Ivanka Trump’s speech at GES.
Tweets celebrating the standing ovation Prime Minister Narendra Modi received from GES delegates were also trending. The Prime Minister himself shared glimpses of the summit which were retweeted widely.
Photos of the handloom sari to be presented to M Trump, selected by Samantha Akkineni, the brand ambassador for the TS handloom industry, were also shared. The sari is a Gollabhama, made in the Siddipet region. Techies from the IT corridor were spotted outside the Trident Hotel at 3 pm trying to catch a glimpse of Ivanka Trump. The tight security ensured that all they could see was the tail end of the convoy.
However, a lot of them took to social media to congratulate the Cyberabad police for ensuring that the roads remained traffic free and did not cause any inconvenience to the public.
Residents tweet Ivanka to visit areas
Jokes abounded on social media on Tuesday urging VIPs to visit their areas so that these too would get a makeover.
Tweets from residents of Manikonda, Secunderabad, Himayatnagar and other areas, tagged to the official twitter handle of Ivanka Trump, urged her to take some time off from the summit and schedule a quick visit to their area.
A tweet from a resident in Secunderabad read, ‘Please visit us for a few minutes.
A year’s worth of work will be done for those few minutes by authorities.’
Many residents of Secunderabad also shared photos of posters that stated, ‘Ms Ivanka Trump, please come to this road.’
Even the tweets welcoming Ivanka by popular twitter handles such as the US Embassy and GES 2017 were not spared as residents pleaded for the Trump convoy to drive through their areas as well.
An amusing video on YouTube of Ivanka’s convoy at Gachibowli during the early hours of Tuesday as it sped towards the Trident Hotel, shows three stray dogs strolling down the road just a few minutes before the convoy was to pass. Twitter users thanked the stray dogs for moving out of the way just in the nick of time.
