2BHK beneficiaries complain of extortion by unidentified persons

Hyderabad: With many beneficiaries yet to occupy the 2BHK houses allotted to them as the work is still incomplete, unidentified persons are calling them up demanding money in the name of providing amenities.

Some beneficiaries complained to the GHMC officials at the circle level that about the phone calls from unknown numbers. The callers, claiming to be GHMC staff, were asking them to transfer amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 online.

Though the BRS government handed over allotment letters for the 2BHK houses ahead of the Assembly elections, many beneficiaries have not been allowed to take possession. At Kollur and Maheshwaram, for example, works related to electricity, water and related infrastructure are still being executed.
