TTD initiates energy efficient programme to save Rs. 5 crores.
VIJAYAWADA: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is unveiling a set of energy-efficient programmes to bring down power consumption at several of its facilities so as to make TTD the ‘best energy-efficient pilgrim destination’ in the world.
TTD executive officer Dharma Reddy held a review meeting with energy officials on Sunday. He said a series of steps would be initiated for the effective implementation of energy efficiency policies. “Our aim is to reduce electricity bills from a high of around Rs.40 crore per annum, by four to five crore rupees, in a phased manner.
He said, “We are planning to replace 118 existing pump sets with energy-efficient pump sets in coordination with the AP State Energy Conservation Mission/AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation.” He sounded confident that once TTD started its execution, it would be the only pilgrim destination in the country to implement an energy-efficient water pumping system on such a large scale.
Senior energy officials said APSEEDCO conducted an investment-grade energy audit in pumping stations and proposed to replace 118 existing pump sets with energy-efficient pump sets with an investment of Rs.3.18 crore with an expectation to save 4.5 MU per annum worth Rs.3.17 crore savings, with a return on investment, by around 12 months.
