Swapnalok victims' kin await compensation

HYDERABAD: First, the fire engulfed their loved ones and now the government apathy. Families of the victims of the Swapnalok Complex fire mishap continue to wait for the compensation announced by the government a fortnight ago.

Six victims including two men and four women were trapped to death in the smoke at their office on the fifth floor of the B-Block when a fire hit Swapnalok Complex in the heart of the city on March 16.

On the following day, minister Talasani Yadav, home minister Mohammed Ali and the mayor met the family members of the victims and announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for each victim.

All the family members of the victims are into farming and come from a lower middle class.

The government on March 17 officially announced that we would get Rs 5 lakh as compensation, but so far we have not received anything, G. Janardhan, a farmer of Warangal district who lost his son G. Prashanth, said.

Talasani Srinivas Yadav assured that he would look into the compensation personally but to date, we have not received any call from him or the government, Rama Rao, victim Triveni’s father said.

Narsimha and Padma, farmers from Warangal district and parents of victim B. Sravani say compensation hardly matters to them as Rs 5 lakh cannot replace their beloved daughter Sravani.

Victims who were trapped to death are Triveni, Shiva, Vennela, Pramila, B. Sravani, B. Prashant. All employees had received their appointment letters and appreciation from Vihaan Selling Pvt Ltd, a sister company of QNET. It proved to be the last celebration for them.
