Food poisoning incidents in government hostels on the rise
ADILABAD: The rise in the number of food poisoning incidents is a matter of worry for the students of government hostels in the erstwhile Adilabad and the state government.
Collectors and district officials are visiting government hostels often and checking the quality of food to avert such incidents. More than 500 students of Basar IIIT fell sick. It was found that the mess contractor used rotten eggs for preparing egg-fried rice.
Students are complaining about poor quality food in these hostels and are coming onto the roads and staging protests.
Recently, students of the girls’ hostel in Mudhole staged a rasta rook protesting the poor quality food. They alleged that they frequently found insects in the food.
As many as 60 girl students of Adilabad Rural Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya( KGBV) fell sick in the month of March.
In a recent review meeting, health minister Harish Rao advised the district food inspectors to visit government hostels and frequently check the quality of food.
He asked officials to supply fresh rice to government hostels.
Nirmal collector Mushraff Faruqui visited the government hostel and checked the quality of food there and also the hygienic conditions, and the quality of the vegetables and ingredients being used there.
In many government schools, there are no proper sheds for preparing the Mid-Day Meals.
A video went viral the other day, in which Mid-Day Meal was being prepared in a dilapidated shed in unhygienic conditions while it was raining in government schools in Chinthaguda in Kagaznagar mandal. An Aganwadi is also being run on the same school campus.
Many government schools have no basic facilities and many of them have no proper cooking space. The floods worsened the conditions in the government schools and hostels as floodwater entered these premises.
There is every possibility of drinking water getting contaminated and getting mixed with floodwater.
On the other hand, the state government is claiming that fine-quality rice is being supplied to government hostels.
