IMD Forecasts Three-Day Rain for AP From Today

VISHAKHAPATNAM: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, has forecast light to moderate rains in Andhra Pradesh till August 2 beginning Monday.

An IMD report said a low pressure area is lying over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts. There is an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting south-westwards with height.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level is now passing through Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bareilly, Patna and Bankura. Another trough is running from northwest Bihar to the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha and West Bengal coasts. Lower tropospheric westerly / north westerly winds are prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Under the influence of this system, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Strong wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places over north coastal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Monday.

The IMD said Anantapur has received one cm of rain on Sunday, with sky remaining overcast in many parts of the state.
