Telangana Rains: Congress forms flood relief committees

HYDERABAD: The Congress, which formed two committees to monitor flood-hit areas and to oversee flood relief work, on Saturday flayed the state government for not responding despite strictures from the High Court, said senior leader M. Kodanda Reddy. The committee found that no medical help had reached the badly impacted rural areas.

“We demand free distribution of medicine. We will review the losses on a district-wise basis”, he said.

TPCC vice-president Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said, “We have alerted the party cadre in districts to render assistance in relief and rehabilitation works. The government, which gave Rs 10,000 to the flood people during the previous floods in view of the GHMC elections, should provide similar relief now.”

The toll-free numbers opened to obtain help from the Congress centre are 040 – 24602383 and 040 – 24601254.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting, former MLA Eravathri Anil said, “T. Harish Rao calling A. Revanth Reddy as a stooge of Chandrababu Naidu is outlandish. Reddy has clarified his comments in press meets. You have accommodated Talasani Srinivas Yadav in your cabinet. Don’t you remember his comments against K Chandrashekar Rao during the Telangana agitation?”

The government is providing only 12 hours power. At Rs 8.30 per unit, the state is spending RS 16,800 crore for 10,800 million units of power. The remaining Rs 6,000 crore worth of power is being diverted. The losses of discoms have shot up from Rs 9,000 crore to RS 50,000 crore. Their rating has also fallen to 43, he added.
