Sasikala Puspha tells court she signed petition in Delhi

The MP had signed it in New Delhi and her husband had submitted the same to the advocate in Madurai on August 17.

Madurai: Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa, who was expelled from the AIADMK recently, told the court she had signed her anticipatory bail petition at New Delhi on August 16 and sent it through her husband Lingeswara Thilagan to submit the same to her advocate in Madurai.

Following the court's direction Puspha, along with her husband Lingeswara Thilagam, appeared before Justice V.M. Velumani of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday to submit her explanation against the allegation that she defrauded the court in filing anticipatory bail petition in connection with the case registered by the Thoothukudi police against her and her family members for allegedly sexually abusing two domestic workers.

When Justice asked Velumani asked whether she had visited the advocate's chamber 51 in Madurai and signed the anticipatory bail petition in the presence of her lawyer, Sasikala said she had signed it in New Delhi. "I am asking you to give a direct answer, have you signed it in Madurai," asked the judge. She stated 'No' and the judge recorded it.

However, the petitioner's senior counsel Veera Katharavan told the court that the government pleader has misled the court stating the anticipatory bail petition was filed only on August 18. "It is absolutely false. The MP had signed it in New Delhi and her husband had submitted the same to the advocate in Madurai on August 17." Moreover, she had not escaped from the country fearing police investigation, her counsel said.
