Rains may dampen Ganesh festival in city
HYDERABAD: The spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which are slated to commence Wednesday, might be dampened as Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rains in the city in the next couple of days.
As the city was bustling with hectic festive preparations, the enthusiasm was marred by heavy rains in many parts of the city on Monday. This was more so in Langer Houz, Bandlaguda Jagir, Malkajgiri, Manikonda, Balanagar, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad, Gachibowli, Koti, Purana Pul, Mangalhat, Aghapura, Tolichowki, Nampally, Alwal, Trimulgherry and Maredpally.
Across the state, Telkapalle in Nagarkurnool district recorded the highest rainfall at 78.8 mm on Monday. The yellow alert has been sounded for the next 24 hours in some places across the state. In addition to light to moderate rains, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely to occur in some places over the state in the next 24 hours.
Although the sky will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rains or thundershowers for the next 48 hours, there seems to be no respite from heat in the coming at least two days for the city as the expected maximum and minimum
temperatures are likely to be 32.2 degree and 24.2 degree Celsius respectively.
