Villagers staged rasta roko on NH-44 seeking justice to kin of Dalit girl

NIZAMABAD: Jakranpally locals and Dalit organisers staged a rasta roko on National Highway 44 on Friday demanding stringent action against a man for the murder of a Dalit girl. They raised slogans against the accused and demanded compensation for the family members of the deceased.

Their hour-long rasta rook brought vehicular traffic on the Hyderabad-Nagpur highway to a halt before police intervened. Nizamabad police commissioner V. Satyanarayana promised appropriate action against the accused.

Sources said the girl and the accused, Toufic were in a relationship before she broke off with him. He continued to stalk her though she did not want to continue their relationship.

Reportedly, Toufic called her to meet him on September 23 and talk things over. After speaking for some time, Toufic allegedly attacked her. She suffered serious injuries and fell unconscious.

The victim was admitted to the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad. BJP state president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy visited the victim at GGH during his visit to Nizamabad on Tuesday

The victim succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night. Police arrested Toufic and registered a case. Nizamabad Rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan assured help to the family members of the deceased.
