Gandhian Ideology Centre at Bowenpally gears up for ‘yatris’ accommodation
HYDERABAD: The little-known 'Gandhian Ideology Centre' on NH-44 at Bowenpally will be in the limelight on November 1 when it hosts Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and a section of the people accompanying him on his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The centre is located on a 10.25-acre site but does not have a permanent structure.
“We are expecting about 600 national and state yatris here. If others including security personnel are considered the number may go up by 2,000,” said N. Bhoopathi Reddy, a PCC delegate from Quthbullapur. He said 14 CCTV cameras had been installed at the site which had been checked by officials from the police and Central security agencies.
The land has been levelled by using earthmovers. Devender Kumar Kaku, a Bharat Jodo Yatra delegate from Delhi who is coordinating in arrangements said that about 25,000 to 30,000 yatris are expected to take part on November 1, as Rahul Gandhi would enter Hyderabad. “About 60-100 containers are being installed for the night stay at the site,” he said. The others will be accommodated elsewhere.
Chandra Prakash, another delegate, said containers had different capacities. Some could accommodate four or six persons, the others two.
Rahul Gandhi will enter the city from Shamshabad and will go to Charminar where he will hoist the National Flag. In the evening he will address a corner meeting at PVNR Marg, after paying respects at former prime minister Indira Gandhi's statue before heading to the Gandhian Ideology Centre.
