Treasure hunt turns tragic, techie drowns in well
HYDERABAD: What started out as a treasure hunt at the Hyderabad Adventure Club resort in Dharur, Vikarabad district, turned tragic when one of the participants, 35-year-old techie G.L.P. Saikumar, drowned in a 30-foot-deep well full of water.
He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter.
On Saturday, approximately 150 people from various parts of the city went to the resort to participate in an event called 'Moonlight Camping,' which included a treasure hunt, hiking, trekking, camping, and games organised at the resort over the weekend. According to the police, the organisers had mobilised the participants through Instagram posts.
The police stated that Saikumar, a resident of AS Rao Nagar, was among those who took part in the 'Moonlight Camping.' During the treasure hunt, everyone ran towards the well in search of a clue. During the process, Saikumar fell into the well and drowned before other participants could reach out to him.
Vindhya, one of the participants and Saikumar's relative, told police that the incident occurred due to the organisers' negligence as there were no safety measures in place during the event. Police opened an investigation based on her complaint.
According to the police, the resort is owned by one Karthik, and that there were no CCTV cameras installed at the well, as also throughout the resort.
Dharur circle inspector Gangishetty Narender stated that action has been taken against the organisers for failure to take safety precautions while organising adventure activities. “We are looking into the case from every angle,” he said.
