Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will dedicate to people of AP Owk Tunnel-2 near Mettupalli in Nandyal district on Thursday by releasing 20,000 cusecs of water from Gorakallu reservoir to the Owk reservoir.
Officials said commissioning of Owk Tunnel 2 will irrigate 1.5 lakh acres under Srisailam Right Bank Canal, apart from supplying additional 1 TMC of water per day to Gandikota, Vamikonda, Sarvarayasagar, Mylavaram, and Paidipalem reservoirs under the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi scheme. It will also provide irrigation facility to 2.60 lakh acres in united Kadapa, Chittoor and Nellore districts, apart from stabilising 1.3 lakh acres of ayacut and providing drinking water to 20 lakh people in 640 villages.
Water resources minister Ambati Rambabu said Rayalaseema will receive 2 TMC of water per day at the rate of 20,000 cusecs during the flood season from Srisailam reservoir.
