Restrictions on New Year eve celebrations in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Vijayawada city police commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata has announced restrictions that will be applicable from the night of December 31 in view of New Year's eve celebrations in the city.
Addressing media here on Friday, he said no gatherings in public spaces will be allowed beyond midnight. Major flyovers in the city will be closed, including Benz Circle, Kanaka Durga, and PCR.
The commissioner advised all people going out to wear masks and follow Covid-19 restrictions owing to resurgence of the virus. He warned people against drinking alcohol, cutting cakes or indulging in revelry in public places. He advised bars and restaurants not to remain open beyond the permitted hours. DJs will be permitted only after taking permission. Likewise, organisers of events, clubs and pubs too will have to take permission from police.
“Even if celebrations are going on till 12 midnight, people should leave the event at midnight and reach home by 1 a.m.,” Kanthi Rana stated.
Similar instructions have been issued by Bapatla district SP Vakul Jindal. He advised people to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the district and not hurt sentiments of others. “There will be checks over drunken driving. People will be detained and fined and their vehicles impounded. There should be no triple riding, wrong-way driving, setting off of fireworks or loud music in public places,” Vakul Jindal warned.
In particular, he asked youth to be wary as once cases are booked against them, it may become difficult for them to get government and private jobs in future.
