Cong. Not Serious on Kaleshwaram Probe: Laxman
Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha member and BJP OBC Morcha president Dr K. Laxman on Saturday said the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy-led state government is not serious about getting to the bottom of the structural damages found at the Kaleshwaram project.
Calling the project a white elephant, Laxman said, “The future of the project is uncertain. The sinking of pillars led to inspection by the Dam Safety Authority from the Centre. Who is responsible for the sinking of pillars, seepages in Annaram barrage and the design faults? Public money was wasted for construction of the project.”
He said the then BRS government did not reveal the full details of the damages because it feared public outrage.
“There is a problem with the quality and maintenance of the dam. The failure of the dam is on all fronts -- planning, design, quality control and operational maintenance. After examining these, the Dam Safety Authority said rules have been flouted,” “Of the 23 clarifications sought from the officials, only eleven were answered. The (Congress) ministers instead of taking all parties for the visit to the project site (yesterday) ignored other parties. But officials who were in-charge of the project then have been retained in the same posts.
No action has been taken against them even after 25 days (since the new government was formed),” Laxman said.
He mocked former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, saying KCR had played the role of an engineer in designing the project. He added that there seemed to be a secret understanding between the Congress and the BRS to protect certain individuals.
