Gulf Migrants Pin Hopes On New Welfare Measures
Nizamabad: Gulf migrant workers are eagerly waiting for the implementation of assurances made by the Congress party during the Assembly elections. The party had assured to resolve their issues and those of NRIs on coming to power.
Setting up of a welfare board for NRIs and Gulf migrant workers, Rs five lakh ex-gratia to family members of deceased migrants while working in Gulf countries and a toll-free helpline number were among the assurances of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) during the election campaign. Encouraged by the reassurances, Gulf migrant workers from the state, especially from north Telangana districts, supported Congress candidates.
Families of Gulf migrant workers had met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra on November 6, 2022.
Muda Ashok, a tribal migrant worker from Nirmal district died in Abu Dhabi. His wife Muda Laxmi, along with 10-month-old daughter Satvika met Rahul Gandhi and explained their misery.
Bachala Raja Narsaiah, a dalit from Kondapur village in Velgatoor mandal of Jagtial district, died by suicide in Sharjah. His wife Bachala Jamuna also shared her grief with the Congress leader. In his immediate reaction, he urged the TPCC leaders to extend cooperation to families of the victims.
Present Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and senior party leaders like T. Jeevan Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar and Madhu Goud Yashki took the initiative to highlight their problems in the Congress election manifesto under Abhaya Hastham.
Emigrant welfare forum president Bheem Reddy Mandha said that the state government should immediately pay 'five lakh in ex-gratia to families of Gulf migrants, who had died. It should implement all its poll promises vis-à-vis migrant workers, he said.
Leaders of Gulf migrant workers had accused the Centre and BRS government of letting them down in their hour of need. They are hoping that the Congress government would come to their rescue and resolve their long-pending problems on a priority basis.
