Huge Demand for Ration Cards at Praja Palana

Many feel food security cards help them get Indiramma Indlu, Arogyasri benefit

ADILABAD: There has been a huge demand for ration cards during the Praja Palana programme in the district. Many people were applying for them with the hope that having a food security card would help them get the benefits of
Indiramma Indlu and Rajiv Aarogyasri schemes.

Newly-married and members separated from joint families were also applying
for ration cards at the ongoing public outreach programme in villages and
municipalities.

In the Abhaya Hastham application form to implement the Six Guarantees by
the Congress government, there is a column seeking ration card details.

However, those who do not have ration cards, can fill the column with ‘no’
and apply for other schemes by attaching a photocopy of their Aadhaar card.
The officials at Praja Palana programmes say that more people applying for
ration cards as the previous government did not issue new ration cards
during the last five years and they are considered for the selection of
welfare schemes under six guarantees by the new Congress government.

However, the number of people who applied for ration cards will be out only
after the data of applications is uploaded to the website, they said.

As many as 18,492 families participated and 11,595 applications were received so far in the Praja Palana drive in the erstwhile Adilabad district, the officials said.

Meanwhile, collector Rahul Raj P.S. said the Abhaya Hastham applications
were being supplied to applications for free of cost and warned of stern action against those selling them as three shops were seized and fined for the same in Adilabad town.

He made it clear that the government had not created any special form to
apply for ration cards and appealed to the people not to believe the rumours
on social media.

After launching the programme here, panchayat Raj and incharge minister for
the district Seethaka said that there were large numbers of people especially Dalits, Adivasis, BCs and the poor among upper castes did not have pucca houses. She said the government would ensure the houses to all eligible poor under the Indiramma Indlu scheme.
