Nandyal sees 38% drop in murder cases
Kurnool: Nandyal District SP K. Raghuveer Reddy disclosed on Saturday that in 2022, Nandyal district recorded 45 murders, which decreased to 28 in 2023, marking a 38 per cent decrease. Similarly, kidnappings dropped from 32 in 2022 to 18 in 2023, marking a 44 per cent reduction. Rape incidents also saw a decline, with 9 cases in 2022 and only 4 in 2023, a 56 per cent decrease.
He provided an annual crime report, highlighting a decrease in various crime rates for the year 2023 compared to 2022. Regarding violent crimes, there were 78 incidents in 2022, which slightly decreased to 72 in 2023 which reflects a 70.68 per cent reduction in such crimes. For crimes related to murder for money, robbery, banditry, theftsthere were 429 incidents in 2022, which decreased to 316 in 2023. The recovery of stolen property also increased by 63 per cent.
Pocso offences decreased from 67 in 2022 to 48 in 2023. Efforts like educating students about good touch and bad touch in schools with women police officers contributed to a 28 per cent reduction in these cases. SP explained that road accidents showed a 12 per cent decrease, with 620 incidents in 2022 and 546 in 2023.
The number of cases registered in 2022 was 1,735, which significantly rose to 4,970 in 2023, marking a 44.39 per cent increase in case registrations, he said.
