Revanth Orders 10 Skill Varsities Across State, Govt School in Each Panchayat

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday announced the setting up of 10 skill universities in the erstwhile undivided districts of the state to focus on facilitating and promoting skill development, entrepreneurship and skill-based education.

The decision was taken in a review meeting on the education sector on Saturday, which saw in attendance Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, TSCHE chairperson Prof. Limbadri, principal secretary (education) Burra Venkatesham, school education director A. Devasena, and CMO officials V. Seshadri and Shahnawaz Qasim, among others.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the need for such varsities in the state to create skilled manpower for industrial needs, for which the varsities will offer employment-oriented short-term and long-term courses.

Officials were asked to conduct a study on the functioning of skill universities in Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Revanth Reddy said that skill universities will be established in nine districts and at Kodangal Assembly constituency, ordering the CS to constitute a special committee with the secretaries of the education department, industries and labour departments, and submit suitable proposals.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also distributed laptops to students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basar.

He made it clear that each gram panchayat in the state should have a government school, stressing the need to establish government schools in the remotest villages so that children are not put off of education due to having to travel far distances.

Revanth Reddy ordered officials to resume the functioning of all government schools that were shut under the previous regime, irrespective of school strength. Officials were asked to conduct a mega DSC for teacher recruitment to run all government schools effectively.

Reviewing works undertaken under the ‘Mana Vooru, Mana Badi’ initiative, Revanth Reddy asked officials to complete all pending works and turn all schools into “the best educational institutions.”

He instructed officials to focus on problems in teacher promotions and transfers, suggesting they hold meetings with teachers’ unions and explore alternative ways to address their issues.

He also said that appropriate alternatives will be explored for charging schools for power under business and industrial categories. Instructions were also issued to the authorities to arrange sweepers and sanitation workers in each school.
