9 Woman IPS Officers Take Centrestage
HYDERABAD: For the first time in electoral history, nine women IPS officers posted in various zones will play a crucial role in the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
Even as the Election Commission of India (ECI) in coordination with the district administration is making elaborate arrangements for smooth elections, many women DCPs are busy in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections in their respective zones.
Apart from eight women DCPs, the SP of Nalgonda district are on the field round-the-clock to maintain law and order.
The officers include DCPs Sadhana Rashmi Perumal (task force), Sneha Mehara (south zone) , Janaki Dharavat (south-east), B. Rohini Priyadarshini (north); P.V. Padmaja (Malkajgiri); Nikita Pant (Medchal); Sri Sai (Cyberabad special branch); Sunita Reddy (Maheshwaram) and Nalgonda SP Deepti Chandana.
DCP (south) Sneha Mehra is having a tough task in the communally sensitive Old City, where contenders from BRS and MIM are involved in high-octane election campaigns.
For the first time, a woman officer was appointed as a DCP in the south zone following the transfer of P. Sai Chaitanya.
These women officials are posted as heads of key zones in sensitive areas, south zone.
Apart from law and order bandobast during campaigning as regards security arrangements, the woman officers attended to complaints from the general public in person and directed their subordinates to see that justice is done.
All the identified trouble-makers, rowdy sheeters, history sheeters, habitual offenders and anti-social elements were bound over rioters in order to create a peaceful environment for the voters, said Deepti Chandana.
“We coordinated with zonal heads and were very particularly instructed to see that our respective jurisdictions are peaceful,” she said.
Another female DCP said, “We work according to rules and directions of our heads.”
“These women officers have been remarkable when it comes to coordination, maintaining tranquility and the absence of untoward incidents”, DGP Ravi Gupta, said.
