Chhattisgarh: 3 Passengers Injured as Iron Pole Falls on Moving Train
Raipur: Three passengers including a minor were on Sunday injured when an iron pole located on the side of a railway track fell on Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) (Mumbai)- bound Shalimar Express near Raipur.
The incident occurred at around ten am when the train was passing through Urkura railway station ahead of Raipur railway station, a railway official said.
The pole fell on an AC coach of the train, shattering its glass window. The glass splinters hit three passengers in the coach injuring them.
“The pole that fell on the train does not belong to the railway. The work was carried out by Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) without authorisation and safety was compromised. Railway has taken all necessary action and all those injured are safe”, the railway official said.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and senior railway officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
The three injured were shifted to a local hospital in Raipur and they were out of danger, the railway official said.
Sources said that some drilling works were carried out near the railway track at the mishap site by Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board which hired a contractor for the purpose, leading to the incident.
CSEB sources said that before starting the work, a collaborative survey was carried out.
