Shah, Doval arrive in Odisha for 3-day DGP-IGP conference

The conference will provide an interactive platform for senior police professionals and security administrators in the country to freely discuss and debate diverse national security-related issues, as well as various operational, infrastructural and welfare-related problems faced by the police in India

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar, has been transformed into a heavily secured hub as it hosts the three-day Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs), starting this evening.

Union home minister Amit Shah and national security advisor Ajit Doval arrived at Bhubaneswar Airport on Friday afternoon to participate in the conference, which will focus on key issues related to national security and law enforcement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to join the conference later in the evening. Ahead of his departure, Mr Shah tweeted, “The conference to be presided over by PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji will delve into the aspects of further bolstering Bharat's security in the face of emerging challenges.”

Senior police officials from across the country have convened in Bhubaneswar for the event. The agenda includes over a dozen sessions focusing on enhancing India’s internal security framework, improving public safety, and addressing emerging challenges.

Key topics on the table include counter-terrorism, Left-Wing Extremism, coastal security, the impact of new criminal laws, narcotics control, and other critical aspects of national security.

This annual conference has been held in various cities since 2014, under Prime Minister Modi’s initiative to decentralize the event. Previous venues include Guwahati (Assam), the Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Madhya Pradesh), the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya (Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi, and Jaipur (Rajasthan).

The 59th DGPs/IGPs Conference marks the first time Odisha has hosted the event, adding another milestone to the state’s record in hosting high-profile national engagements.
