Odisha Twin Rejects IIT Bombay CSE Seat To Study With Brother At IIT Madras

Maharuf and Masroor, twin brothers who studied together, secured AIR 32 and AIR 169 respectively in JEE Advanced 2026.

Bhubaneswar : In a rare display of sibling bond outweighing individual ambition, a twin from Odisha who secured an exceptional All India Rank (AIR) 32 in JEE Advanced 2026 has chosen to forgo a coveted Computer Science seat at IIT Bombay in order to study alongside his brother at IIT Madras.

Maharuf and Masroor, twin brothers who spent the last three years preparing for the prestigious engineering entrance examination in Kota, secured AIR 32 and AIR 169 respectively.

With his rank, Maharuf had the opportunity to secure admission to Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at IIT Bombay, considered one of the most sought-after courses in the country. However, he decided to opt for IIT Madras, where both brothers plan to pursue Computer Science.

The twins said they have studied together throughout their lives and have always depended on each other for academic support and motivation. During their JEE preparation, they regularly discussed difficult problems, cleared each other's doubts and helped one another stay focused.

"Our journey has always been together, and we wanted it to continue that way," the brothers said.

Their success also reflects the sacrifices made by their parents. Their father, Dr Mansoor Ahmad Khan, is the in-charge of the dispensary at IIT Bhubaneswar. Their mother, Dr Zeenat Begum, left her job and moved to Kota with the twins to support them during their preparation.

Dr Khan said much of the credit goes to his wife, who ensured the boys had the right environment and guidance during the crucial years leading up to the examination.

Known for their strong academic record, the brothers followed a disciplined routine in Kota, balancing coaching classes with self-study and regular revision. Though they come from a family of doctors, both chose engineering as their career path.
