Ola, Uber, Rapido Drivers Switch Off ACs to pressurise firms

Hyderabad: Drivers operating on app-based cab platforms such as Uber, Ola and Rapido have announced a ‘No AC Campaign’ in the hot summer in association with the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) to press cab companies to redress their grievances.

On Monday, the drivers turned off air conditioning despite the scorching summer temperature exceeding 40º Celsius. This is the second such protest by cab drivers following a similar move by them last summer.

Drivers participating in the protest said the cab companies are not paying attention to their demands. As last year some of their demands were met after a No-AC Campaign, they hope that their demands would be met this year also.

The drivers have also appealed to the state government for urgent action on the implementation of uniform fares per kilometre for all taxis and strict enforcement of government regulations by these companies.

The drivers said their intention is not to inconvenience customers or themselves. But as their demands remained unheard, they felt compelled to launch the No AC Campaign once again this summer.
