Over 94,000 Students Fail In Marathi In SSC Exam By Maharashtra State Board

Shocking results for Marathi language as student performed excellent in Sanskrit, Arabic and Gujarati language.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education released the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results this Friday for the exams conducted in February 2026. While the state achieved an overall pass percentage of 92.09%, the performance in Marathi has caused significant concern.

Out of more than 16 lakh students who appeared for the exams, 14,20,486 students passed. However, a total of 94,544 students failed in the Marathi subject. Among those who selected Marathi as their first language, 80,803 students did not pass. For those taking it as a second or third language, 13,741 students failed.

This performance in the native language is being viewed as shocking, especially since Marathi’s pass rate of 92.57% lags behind other subjects like Sanskrit (99.21%), Arabic (99.59%), and Gujarati (100%). Although the state government recently made Marathi a compulsory subject up to Class 12 for all schools, these results suggest that students are increasingly struggling with the language.
