Revanth Reddy Orders Vigilance Against Monsoon Flooding, Sets June 4 Deadline for Action Plan

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday said that one officer from each of the departments concerned must be posted to monitor measures to be taken against flooding during the monsoon and to respond quickly in case of emergencies. He also directed officers at a review meeting to draft an action plan by June 4 to ensure management of flooding, if it occurs, during the rainy season.

Revanth Reddy warned that negligence at work would not be tolerated, and meritorious work would be rewarded, while speaking at the review meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Centre of the police in Banjara Hills on Saturday. Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, Director General of Police Ravi Gupta and senior officers of the police, GHMC, and other line departments were present at the meeting.The officials made a presentation on issues that were expected to turn up during the rainy season and the measures taken to during untoward incidents. Revanth Reddy said that there should be a system where one officer from each department is responsible for handling issues that could turn up during heavy rains.He said that he would undertake surprise checks at the line departments after the model code of conduct (MCC) ended in the state on June 5.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure cleaning of drainages on a regular basis and prevention of dumping of garbage. He also told them to ensure that all manholes are closed. Open nalas must be barricaded to prevent mishaps.Officials were instructed to prepare plans for permanent settlement in flood prone areas.Electricity department officials were asked to take measures to prevent power interruptions after the rains and replace damaged equipment which could cause outages. “There should be no power cuts during the rains,” Revanth Reddy said.The Chief Minister also reviewed traffic and others with the officials at the Command control in Banjara Hills
